The Portfolio tool in Brightspace makes documenting evidence of learning, progress and expertise easy among students and scalable for teachers. Students of all ages can showcase growth, reflect on learning and share their achievements with teachers, parents and guardians with Portfolio.

How Students Can Use Portfolio

This tool’s user-friendly interface is a great way to get started with Brightspace. For younger students and nonreaders, a guided “Funster mode” walks little ones through capturing evidence of learning with audio prompts.

As students grow, they can easily capture or upload images and video evidence with the Portfolio app, either in class or at home. From Brightspace, they can drag and drop files for upload, or add links to evidence from Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. Once the evidence has been added, students can edit the details or add reflections and categories.

Students’ hard work is saved through archived Portfolios, allowing them to share and reflect on work from grade to grade.

How Teachers Can Use Portfolio

Teachers can easily navigate Portfolios to assess, comment on, and share items with parents and guardians with one centralized view. They can see all students or all evidence on the same page within a course, with different view options available to optimize their experience.

Evidence can be filtered, displaying items by category or bringing priority submissions to the forefront. When evaluating pieces of evidence, teachers can send feedback to students and assess artifacts against course outcomes and rubrics, to clearly tie items to desired achievements.

Teachers can also add private notes for their own reference or for collaboration with fellow teachers right in the course.

As students progress through their education journey, we’ve made it easy for them to showcase and maintain their learning experiences through their school years with the Portfolio tool in Brightspace.
