At D2L, we believe in fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone can thrive. One of the ways we achieve this is through our Women in Action (WIN) employee resource group (ERG). WIN is dedicated to empowering and uplifting the voices of women and non-binary individuals within D2L. In February 2024, WIN launched an official mentorship program that has been in high demand since its launch. The third cohort of the program kicked off in August. Here’s what makes this program special and how it benefits both mentors and mentees.
What Is the Women in Action Network?
WIN is a community of women and allies that celebrates diversity, fosters professional growth, and provides a safe space for sharing experiences. WIN is on a mission to foster an environment where women and non-binary individuals can thrive, connect and learn from one another. WIN is open to all D2Lers, whether they identify as a member of the group or as an ally.
The WIN Mentorship Program:
The WIN Mentorship Program is a female-led program designed by D2Lers, for D2Lers. It connects mentors and mentees in a supportive environment that allows for both groups to grow personally and professionally, expand their network of amazing women and allies, and allows everyone to empower and be empowered.
How It Works:
- Both mentors and mentees volunteer to participate in the program. The program welcomes all mentors, whether they are experienced mentors already or are new to it and want to gain formal mentorship experience. The commitment from mentors and mentees reflects their dedication to personal and professional development.
- The program utilizes a small group format, typically consisting of 1–2 mentors and a few mentees. This intimate setting encourages meaningful interactions and fosters a sense of community.
- The program spans three months, during which participants work towards set learning outcomes through discussions and suggested activities. The content is hosted on D2L Brightspace for easy access.
- Each month, groups explore a few key topics relevant to personal growth, career advancement and leadership. Sample topics include goal setting, self-discovery, time management, networking, emotional intelligence and work-life balance.
- At the conclusion of the three-month period, mentors and mentees are encouraged to stay connected and continue to foster the new connections formed.
“I feel so lucky to be a part of this amazing group! As both a mentor and a mentee, I’ve witnessed firsthand how this relationship benefits both partners. It’s not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about mutual inspiration and growth,” said a D2L mentor.
“Being a mentee, I am hoping to expand my network, learn about different career journeys, and boost my confidence. The WIN Mentorship Program has given me the support and encouragement I need to thrive,” said a D2L mentee.
The WIN Mentorship Program isn’t just about professional development; it’s about building a community of empowered individuals who lift each other up.
