When I started my co-op at D2L, I expected to gain experience, develop new skills, and work on exciting projects. What I didn’t expect was how much wellness and work-life balance would be woven into my day-to-day experience.
From weekly yoga sessions and gym access to lunch-hour walks organized by the D2L Wellness Committee, there are plenty of ways to step away, recharge, and reset throughout the workday. Social events like bi-weekly team socials create a welcoming environment where employees can build connections outside meetings and projects. And the office dogs, of course, are a bonus. I love taking a quick walk to say hi since a few minutes of puppy time can always lift your mood.
Beyond physical wellness, mental well-being is a priority. D2L provides workshops, mental health resources and educational sessions on stress management, nutrition, and work-life balance. There are also wellness challenges and community-driven initiatives that make it easy to engage with coworkers outside of work tasks. These small efforts show that wellness isn’t just encouraged, it’s actively supported.
Another great aspect of D2L’s culture is how wellness is tied to community-building. Whether it’s wellness-focused events, social gatherings, or workplace initiatives, there’s always something happening that brings people together. One of my favorite examples is the Gratitude Tree in the kitchen, drawn by a past co-op. It’s a simple but meaningful way for employees to express appreciation for their coworkers, share positive moments, and contribute to a culture of kindness. Initiatives like this make D2L’s work environment feel truly special.
As a co-op, I found this culture to be a huge difference in my experience. I felt valued and supported, not just as an employee, but as a person. It’s clear that wellness and productivity go hand in hand, and D2L understands that when employees feel their best, they do their best work. This is why so many co-ops return, including myself, because D2L fosters an environment where people want to stay and grow.
