THE OPPORTUNITY
Join our team of high-performing designers who work in an exciting space to transform the way the world learns. You will build deep empathy and understanding of users, and use a broad set of inputs including business context and awareness of technical constraints, to craft delightful, useful, and usable experiences. Reporting to a Product Design Manager, you will join a strong and collaborative centralized Product Design team--inclusive of our UX Research and Accessibility practices--whose members focus on various product domains at D2L. You will also contribute cross-functionally to defining and executing initiatives where you’ve helped align user needs to key business outcomes.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- The ability to craft beautiful designs and delightful, useful, and usable experiences; you have strengths in system analysis, interaction, and UI design
- Demonstrated experience developing style guides and contributing to design systems
- An understanding of the broader UX practice and a story about your process; you can illustrate how you work with narrative, artifacts, successes, and challenges
- Awareness that good design is both about what you do and how you do it; you demonstrate that you care about both
- Curiosity combined with a desire to learn and grow; you're a life-long learner who is willing to explore new tools and approaches
- Openness, objectivity, and self-awareness; you are collaborative and seek and share feedback and ideas with your peers
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills; you frame, structure, and present work clearly and confidently, including to product stakeholders and senior leaders
- A sense of empathy and a user focus; you apply empathy both to your design work and with your project peers
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand and apply activities within the product design process at D2L from project inception to delivery
- Design workflows and experiences that are usable, functional, and consistent
- Complete inclusive design and accessibility activities to craft accessible experiences
- Develop expertise in the project domain and an understanding of the broader domain, user flow, or product area (product and pedagogy)
- Collaborate with other contributors in a broad scope design initiative or related product areas. You take ownership of project activities and deliverables.
- You educate and advocate with the project team on product design activities and contribute to defining a vision
- Participate in design reviews by framing and sharing works in progress throughout the process and by sharing useful and actionable feedback with peers
- Collaborate with UX Research, and support research activities through identifying research needs, providing project context, and aligning on outcomes; assist with note-taking and analysis
- Mentor other product designers
- Be responsible for initiatives that touch core flows in the early stages of strategic initiatives
- Advocate for product design and user experience research activities and contributions, including engaging with early research and explorations
- Contribute to defining aspects of our maturing practice
The ideal candidate will be co-located to D2L's Kitchener or Toronto locations, and/or work remotely within the EST time zone.
The expected base salary range for a new hire in this role is listed below. The annualized base salary offered is determined by each candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, training and experience. It is aligned to ensure both internal and external competitiveness using market data for the geographic location and industry. As part of the total compensation at D2L the role may be eligible for additional benefits including a Wellness Subsidy, Equity Grants, Variable Incentive, and more.
