D2L Brightspace Helps Boost Student Success at the American College of Financial Services

ACFS Sees Improved Student Engagement and Certification Rates

Press Release

D2L, a global learning technology company, has boosted student success at the American College of Financial Services (ACFS). With the use of D2L Brightspace, ACFS has seen an 18% year-over-year increase in conferrals of undergraduate professional designations and certifications and a 13% bump in graduate degree conferrals.

With D2L products like Performance+ and Class Progress, ACFS monitors student engagement to optimize course content. The use of intelligent agents in Brightspace can help to identify students who need more support, with the goal of improving retention rates. ACFS also uses D2L’s Creator+ content authoring tool, featuring AI-driven D2L Lumi, which can help generate practice questions, interactive assessments and other content, saving instructors time and allowing them to focus on student success.

“Without a doubt, the AI tools in Creator+ are speeding up course design and creation,” said Dr. Elizabeth Pearsall, Assistant Provost for Teaching and Learning at ACFS. “By generating questions directly from the content provided by subject matter experts and faculty, D2L Lumi and Creator+ streamline the workflow. Faculty can focus on reviewing and refining questions rather than starting from scratch, saving valuable time while ensuring a high-quality learning experience.”

Since 1927, ACFS has helped advance the careers of finance professionals through specialized programs. Today, ACFS has access to D2L’s 24/7 support for students needing guidance in Brightspace. Dr. Pearsall and her team collaborate closely with their dedicated D2L Learning Administration Manager to help customize content and workflows in the learning platform.

“We’re thrilled to support the American College of Financial Services to create inspiring learning experiences for its students,” said John Baker, Founder and CEO at D2L. “We do thousands of design sessions each year with our users to make sure our products deliver better results. And it’s very exciting and rewarding to see the impact of that work with clients – helping to save time for both faculty and students and achieving better learning outcomes. The ACFS story is a great example of how we’re helping transform the way the world learns.”

Today, ACFS is working on several initiatives with D2L to help enhance its learning programs, including redesigning course materials and launching faculty training.

The possibilities of what we can do are endless, and our partnership will continue to grow in the coming years. That’s in large part due to the robustness and flexibility of the Brightspace platform. Adapting D2L Brightspace for the financial industry has been one of the cornerstones of how we are transforming the educational experience for our students.
