Getting Started
In this first step, we’ll run through some basics, where you’ll learn to navigate Brightspace and become familiar with key terminology. Getting Started will provide an overview of navigating the Brightspace Learning Environment and finding and activating your courses as well as learning ways to personalize your course home page and create a message for your students.
As a teacher, you’ll be able to navigate the Brightspace Learning Environment to become familiar with the following:
- Finding your courses
- Activating your courses
- Navigating your district and course home pages
- Customizing your course banner
- Creating a post using Activity Feed
- Creating a post using Announcements

Step 2
Delivering Content
Creating content is a key part of the Brightspace Learning Environment. This session will explore the different workflows you can use to build effective course content, including importing courses, creating from scratch, uploading files, dragging and dropping, and adding existing activities.
As a beginner-level teacher, you’ll be able to:
- Create a new unit and lesson
- Add materials
- Preview from the student perspective
- Post items to the course home page

Step 3
Communication and Engagement
Congratulations on making it to Step 3!
In this step, we’ll be looking at some ways you can communicate and engage with your students by using some of the tools found in Brightspace.
We’ll cover how to use multimedia tools like Video Note, Activity Feed, Announcements, and Awards to reach every learner.
As a teacher, you’ll be able to:
- Explore the Brightspace Editor for multimedia opportunities to communicate with students
- Use Activity Feed to connect with students
- Remind, connect, and communicate with students about engaging activities by using Announcements
- Use the Awards tool to recognize student achievements

Step 4
Assessment and Feedback
You’ve arrived at Step 4—welcome! In this step, we’ll discuss how you can use Brightspace as your assessment hub to have all your assessment information and feedback in one space.
We’ll cover how to create assignments with different submission types, add assessment instructions and rubrics, and share assessment information with your students. We’ll also look at how you can easily provide detailed and personalized feedback using our powerful feedback features.
As a teacher, you’ll be able to:
- Create an assignment in Activity Feed and the Assignments tool
- Create and attach a rubric to an assignment
- Assess and provide feedback on an assignment using the Annotation tool, rubrics, and the Feedback comment area
