Starting adventures in online learning
Northeastern Technical College (NETC) has a mission to show underserved students the value of technical education and open their eyes to the opportunities available in their local communities. For students who may be the first in their family to go to college, mentorship and support are vital. That’s why NETC is using D2L Brightspace to provide students with an engaging, supportive college experience, even when they’re studying at home.
Helping to reduce barriers with online experiential learning
As a leader in online education, Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) knows firsthand that online students face a unique barrier to internships, which are essential to a full educational experience. To address this challenge, SNHU created the Higher Education and Real-World Training (HEaRT) learning model, delivered asynchronously through D2L Brightspace. HEaRT connects learners with employers and allows them to build and demonstrate key skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, team building, and project management. Since its inception in 2018, over 850 learners have successfully completed a HEaRT experience.
Preparing students for high-demand industries
The Minnesota State IT Center of Excellence (ITCOE), hosted by Metropolitan State University, works closely with industry and educators to attract students and prepare them for work in high-demand industries in Minnesota. Through its Curriculum Project, the Center of Excellence sought to develop or enhance programs in high-demand IT disciplines, including cybersecurity, data science, agile, DevOps, and career readiness, all to meet increased market needs. Brightspace was essential in delivering on-demand IT modules that align with industry standards and incorporate innovative learning technologies and best practices to all 37 campuses within the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, including sharing resources with workforce centers, economic development agencies, and other agencies serving the state’s dislocated and underserved populations.
Streamlining the transition to online teaching
As the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted traditional face-to-face teaching methods across the USA, Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) aimed to rapidly ramp up adoption of the Brightspace learning management system. By creating a targeted quick-start training course for its faculty members, XULA has boosted internal adoption of the Brightspace platform to 99%, enabling teachers and students to interact seamlessly online.
Turning challenge into opportunity
When the COVID-19 pandemic compelled higher education institutions around the world to switch to remote learning, the University of Guelph was well-prepared with a mature approach to effectively integrate technology to provide meaningful and engaging learning experiences. Using D2L’s Brightspace platform, the University rapidly adapted to alternative methods of course delivery, supporting effective transitions for students and faculty.
Flexible workforce learning
HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, worked with D2L to create pathways for learning progression for students enrolled in the College’s workforce development noncredit programs. In collaboration with local businesses, HACC is building stackable credentials that can be delivered online via D2L’s Brightspace platform, providing a blend of self-paced and instructor-led programs that help students develop and demonstrate new competencies.
